Token Ring

Token Ring is a local area network (LAN) technology that uses a token-passing protocol to control access to the network in a ring topology. It was standardized as IEEE 802.5 and was widely used in the 1980s and 1990s for corporate networks, offering deterministic performance and collision-free data transmission. Devices on the network pass a special frame called a token around the ring, with only the device holding the token allowed to transmit data at any given time.
