Service Registry

A service registry is a centralized database or directory that tracks the network locations and metadata of available service instances in a distributed system, such as microservices. It enables service discovery by allowing services to register themselves upon startup and query the registry to find other services they need to communicate with. This decouples service consumers from hardcoded service locations, facilitating dynamic scaling, load balancing, and fault tolerance.

🧊Why learn Service Registry?

Developers should learn and use service registries when building distributed systems, especially microservices architectures, to manage service discovery dynamically. It is essential for scenarios where services are frequently deployed, scaled, or fail, as it allows automatic updates to service availability without manual configuration. Use cases include cloud-native applications, containerized environments like Kubernetes, and systems requiring high availability and resilience.
