Pathping

Pathping is a Windows command-line network diagnostic tool that combines features of ping and tracert/traceroute to analyze network path and performance. It sends packets to each router along a path to a destination, measuring latency and packet loss at each hop, and provides statistics on round-trip times and packet loss percentages. This helps identify network bottlenecks, latency issues, or problematic routers in a connection.

Also known as: path ping, path-ping, Windows Pathping, pathping.exe, pathping command
🧊Why learn Pathping?

Developers should use Pathping when troubleshooting network connectivity problems, such as slow internet speeds, intermittent connections, or identifying specific routers causing packet loss in a network path. It is particularly useful for diagnosing issues in complex networks, like corporate environments or cloud infrastructures, where pinpointing the exact location of network degradation is critical for performance optimization or debugging distributed systems.
