Living Building Challenge

The Living Building Challenge (LBC) is a rigorous green building certification program and design framework that promotes regenerative and sustainable construction. It goes beyond traditional green building standards by requiring projects to be net-positive in energy, water, and waste, while also addressing social equity and beauty. Developed by the International Living Future Institute, it sets performance-based requirements across seven 'Petals' (Place, Water, Energy, Health & Happiness, Materials, Equity, and Beauty).

🧊Why learn Living Building Challenge?

Developers should learn about the Living Building Challenge when working on sustainable architecture, urban planning, or green technology projects that aim for high environmental and social impact. It is particularly relevant for developers involved in building information modeling (BIM), energy modeling, or software for monitoring building performance, as it provides a framework for creating regenerative systems. Use cases include designing eco-friendly residential or commercial buildings, developing tools for sustainability assessment, or integrating IoT sensors to track compliance with LBC standards.
