Its permanent free tier was retired May 27, 2025, replaced by a 60-day trial capped at 100 emails/day. Current Email API plans: Essentials $19.95/mo for 50K emails (~$1.00/1,000 overage), Pro $89.95/mo for 100K-2.5M emails (~$0.85-0.90/1,000 overage), Premier custom-priced above 5M/mo; an extra dedicated sending IP costs $30/mo. The REST API is v3, shipping official SDKs in 7 languages. A separate Marketing Campaigns line starts at Basic $15/mo for 300K sends. Pick SendGrid if you're already on Twilio for SMS/voice and want transactional email, marketing automation, and IP warmup under one dashboard with enterprise deliverability tooling — that consolidation pays off past ~500K sends/mo. Don't pick it for a side project or MVP: since the May 2025 free-tier cut, Resend (3,000 free/mo, $0.90/1K overage) or Amazon SES ($0.10/1,000 flat) badly undercut SendGrid's $19.95 Essentials floor. Community and G2 reviews consistently flag slow support-ticket turnaround and inconsistent inbox placement as the recurring gripe — not code quality, deliverability trust.
